This is some of the mischief and fun we experienced during our second day in Istanbul. Big T ("BT" henceforth) wanted to check out the underground cistern, where "From Russia with Love" had filmed a bit. We then walked over to Taksim, considered the "new city." While in Taksim, we strolled along the main road which is reminiscent of many downtowns, bustling with brand name stores and fast food restaurants. We had our best meal while in Taksim, at a "workers' restaurant" (Lades Restoran -
İstiklal Caddesi 14, Istanbul, Türkiye 0212 251 3203).
After our short time in Taksim, we returned to the historic center and visited Aya Sofya (by late afternoon the long morning lines had dwindled). Both of us really enjoyed the visit to Aya Sofya. Then we made our way to the Grand Bazaar -- supposedly the largest market in the world. (I don't know about that, I think Namdaemun Market in Seoul is pretty large.) Anyway, we finally made it back to the hotel and rested before our great dinner at
Balikci Sabahattin, it was nice and posh (quite different from our lunch).

Roasted corn, everywhere in Istanbul! Looks tempting,
but never ate it! |
